Update for Kickstarter Backers (Voyager Tier and Up)

We have good news for some of our Kickstarter backers: We’re ready to start accepting submissions for the Cryptic Journal and cosmetic items from our Tailor Backers! Check your Account Inventory and, if you fall into either of these categories, be sure to read the details below.

Cryptic Journal

We’re finally ready to begin collecting your submissions for the “Your Design in The Cryptic Journal” reward! As a reminder, this reward allows you to submit an original Kinfolk design, and it will be featured in the in-game Cryptic Journal!

When making your submission, you must use the email that is connected to your Skymill Account that contains a Voyager Package or higher. If you’re not sure what this means, do the following:

Visit the Skymill website.

  1. Log in using the email associated with your Kickstarter pledge. If your email is not one of the login partners, log in with a different account, then link the correct email to the account in Preferences under Account Linking.

  2. Now that you have a Skymill account, you can verify that your rewards are displaying in the Account Inventory.

If you no longer have access to that email, please contact support@skymill.com about migrating your rewards to your current email address.

You can submit your design by replying directly to the email you received from SkymillCrypticJournal@gmail.com. The artwork for your submission must be attached to the submission email and have:

  • An aspect ratio of 1:1.

  • A resolution of 1500 x 1500 pixels or less.

  • A file size of 10MB or less.

  • A PNG or JPG format.

Please see below for a list of requirements:

  • Cryptic Journal submissions must depict your own original Kinfolk design. Artwork that is submitted without the original artist’s permission will be rejected. (Don’t plagiarize).

  • If your submission artwork was created by another artist, that artist must provide proof of permission before the artwork can be accepted. Proof of permission must be provided by the artwork’s original artist in the form of an email sent to SkymillCrypticJournal@gmail.com. The email must include a picture of the artwork, a message confirming they consent to the image’s use in the game, and be an email address belonging to one of the artist’s public facing social pages (Instagram, Artstation, DeviantArt, etc.), if applicable.

  • Submissions that make reference to, or bear a strong resemblance to anything outside of Kindred Fates will be rejected. (Don’t submit Taylor Swift, Pikachu, Sonic OCs, Fursonas, memes, religious or ideological symbols, etc.)

  • Submissions containing gore, excessive violence, drug use, sexual or suggestive themes, or anything deemed excessively inappropriate will be rejected.

Submissions from email addresses that do not have a Cryptic Journal item associated with their Skymill Account will be rejected.

If your submission is accepted, we will notify you with a reply to your submission email.

If we have any questions regarding your design, we’ll reply to your submission email.

If your submission is rejected, we will notify you with a reply to your submission email explaining that it was rejected and why.

If your submission was rejected, you can resubmit it for approval for up to 1 month after submissions are closed.

Submissions are open from now until August 15th, 2023. Designs submitted past August 15th will not be accepted (unless your submission was rejected, in which case you have up to a month after to correct it), so please be sure to take this into account if you’d like to participate. If you have any questions, please email us at SkymillCrypticJournal@gmail.com. Thank you for your patience up until now, and we look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Tailor Backers

We’re finally ready to begin collecting your submissions for the “Design a Cosmetic Item” reward! As a reminder, this reward allows you to design a cosmetic item that will be wearable by either humans or Kinfolk, and it will be added to the game! You should have received an email from us from SkymillTailors@gmail.com about how to submit your design. If you did not receive an email and you think you should have, send us a private message on Kickstarter, or email support@skymill.com.

If your cosmetic item is for a human, it must fall into one of the clothing slot categories below:

  • Hat (ex. Baseball cap, top hat, cowboy hat, fedora, etc.)

  • Hairband.

  • Headphones.

  • Glasses.

  • Bracelet.

  • Top (ex. T-shirt, tank top, hoodie, collared shirt, etc.), from the neck, to the bottom of the waist, and end of the wrists.

  • Bottom (ex. Jeans, slacks, shorts, skirts, capris, etc.), from hips to the bottom of the shins.

  • Shoes (ex. Sneakers, flats, sandals, loafers, stilettos, slippers, etc.), from the bottom of the shins to the bottom of the feet.

If your cosmetic item is for a Kinfolk, you must specify the currently revealed Kinfolk that the item is intended for, and it must fall into one of the following clothing slot categories:

  • Hat.

  • Glasses.

  • Bracelet.

(Please understand that the wide variety of Kinfolk body types makes it very difficult to create cosmetic items that can be used by all Kinfolk)

You can make your submission by replying directly to the email you received from SkymillTailors@gmail.com. Your submission email should include:

  • At least 1 reference image that the cosmetic item’s appearance should be inspired by. Include as many as you need for us to get a clear idea of what you’re looking for. You’re free to use something you drew yourself as a reference image, or photos online that closely match your goal.

  • A short written description of the item’s appearance including its color and general shape.

  • Any text desired for a t-shirt (must not include proper nouns).

  • (Optional) A suggestion for the item’s name (encouraged, but not required). Keep it descriptive only (ex. Both “Striped Shirt” and “Valiant Striped Shirt” are okay, but “Mike’s Striped Shirt” is not.)

When making your submission, you must use the email that is connected to your Skymill Account that contains a Tailor Package. If you’re not sure what this means, do the following:

  1. Visit the Skymill website.

  2. Log in using the email associated with your Kickstarter pledge. If your email is not one of the login partners, log in with a different account, then link the correct email to the account in Preferences under Account Linking.

  3. Now that you have a Skymill account, you can verify that your rewards are displaying in the Account Inventory.

If you no longer have access to that email, please contact support@skymill.com about migrating your rewards to your current email address.

Your submission must not:

  • Overlap with one or more categories of the character’s body. (Jumpsuits, ball gowns, military boots, etc.)

  • Require complex moving parts or effects.

  • Make reference to, or bear a strong resemblance to any media, symbolism, etc. outside of Kindred Fates. (Don’t submit Taylor Swift, Pikachu, Sonic OCs, Fursonas, memes, religious or ideological symbols, etc.)

  • Contain gore, excessive violence, drug use, sexual or suggestive themes, or anything deemed excessively inappropriate.

  • Be from an email address that does not have a Tailor Package associated with their Skymill Account.

If your submission is accepted, we will notify you with a reply to your submission email.

If we have any questions regarding your design, we’ll reply to your submission email.

If your submission is rejected, we will notify you with a reply to your submission email explaining that it was rejected and why.

If your submission is rejected, you can resubmit it for approval for up to 1 month after submissions are closed.

Submissions are open from now until May 29th, 2023. Designs submitted past May 29th will not be accepted (unless your submission was rejected, in which case you have up to a month after to correct it), so please be sure to take this into account if you’d like to participate. If you have any questions, please feel free to send them to SkymillTailors@gmail.com. Thank you for your patience up until now, and we look forward to seeing what you come up with!
